Jason Mercier overcame a tough final table to win the 2015 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open $25,400 buy-in no-limit hold’em high roller event, capturing his second title of the year and earning $652,800.

“It’s pretty awesome because for as many tournaments as I’ve won, I’ve never actually had my family here. I knew this tournament series was a pretty decent opportunity to make a final table and have them come watch," said the southern Florida native after the win. "Anytime there’s a series here I’m really trying so that they can come. I was just happy to still be in. My Dad got here for the start, took off some work, and it was cool to have them both of my parents here and my sister here to watch me win.”

The event featured a $1 million guarantee, which was easily doubled with 83 total entries building a $2,075,000 prize pool in the end.

In addition to the title and the money Mercier also earned 672 Card Player Player of the Year points. This was Mercier’s sixth final table finish of the year, including a win in the $5,000 six-max no-limit hold’em event at the World Series of Poker and a runner up finish in the WSOP $10,000 pot-limit Omaha championship.

All told he has garnered 4,192 Player of the Year points so far in 2015, with $2,022,006 in year-to-date earnings. As a result of this latest win he has climbed from fourth place into second in the POY rankings, but is still more than 2,000 points behind current leader Anthony Zinno.

The 28-year-old poker pro now has $15,714,817 in career live tournament earnings, overcoming John Juanda and Brian Rast to occupy the 10th-place spot on the all-time money list.

Mercier overcame a stacked final table on the road to victory, outlasting the likes of David Peters (9th – $57,500), David “Doc” Sands (6th – $116,600), Barry Hutter (5th – $141,900) and 2014 CPPT bestbet Jacksonville champion Sean Winter (3rd – $245,500).

In the end Mercier defeated Ian O’Hara heads-up for the title. The Boca Raton native earned the largest payday of his tournament career, taking home $391,700 for his runner-up finish.
