Finnish poker pro Jens “Jeans89” Kyllönen was the biggest winner in the online poker world in September, capturing $635,283 in profits, according to tracking data from HighstakesDB.
It took him roughly 9,500 hands to win that amount.
On the flip side, Ben “Sauce123” Sulsky (-$501,412), Viktor “Isildur1” Blom (-$490,808) and Jason Mercier (-$296,975) had the roughest September. Dan “w00ki3z” Cates (-$126,321), Sam “tr1cky7” Trickett (-$120,516) and Phil “MrSweets28” Galfond also lost during the month.
The money Kyllönen won brought his lifetime earnings on PokerStars to $4,959,875, the most by anyone in the site’s history. Sulsky is second on the PokerStars all-time list with $3,687,825 in profits.
The largest hand of September was a $346,422 pot at $200-$400 pot-limit Omaha on Sept. 13. The hand featured Blom and unidentified PokerStars account “JayP-AA.” The hand included a bluff gone wrong on the river for Blom.
JayP-AA held A A Q 9, while Blom had K J 7 6.
Blom made it $1,600 on the button, and JayP-AA three-bet to $5,300. Blom called, and the flop fell J 10 6. JayP-AA bet $7,300. Blom called. The turn was the 5, and JayP-AA bet $18,400. Blom called again. The river brought the 5, and JayP-AA bet $26,300 into a pot of roughly $63,000. Blom decided to raise to $142,000. JayP-AA didn’t have much more than Blom’s bet. He eventually called with aces up and took the massive pot.
The hand was the only one of the month to exceed $300,000, but there were more than 20 other hands that broke $200,000. Most of them involved Sulsky or Blom.
Even though 75 percent of 2015 is complete, there’s still a lot that could happen on the unofficial high-stakes leader board. Here’s a look at the winners and losers from Jan. 1 to Sept. 30.
