Americas Cardroom Tweaks $5 Million Guarantee PromotionBuy-Ins Lowered and Guarantees Spread Out Among Four Events |
|
We just announced some major changes to our $5 Million GTD promotion that’s currently underway on Americas Cardroom. The $5 Million promotion was originally intended to be five individual $1 million GTD ‘Million Dollar Sundays’ tournaments.
The first three are now in the books. The two remaining scheduled $1 million GTD tourneys with a $540 buy-in are being changed.
In its place are four $500,000 GTD tournaments with $270 buy-ins each on:
• Sunday, Oct. 18 at 5 pm ET
• Sunday, Oct. 25 at 5 pm ET
• Sunday, Nov. 1 at 5 pm ET
• Sunday, Nov. 8 at 5 pm ET
Here’s the reasoning behind the changes:
We received overwhelming feedback from our player base that the cost of each tournament was just too high. A $540 buy-in is a hefty sum of money for each individual tournament and to pay that price five times within six weeks is just out of reach for our average player’s bankroll.
It was also just too expensive a promotion. While we expected to incur some overlays with the size and scope of the promotion, the price tag was far beyond what we anticipated. In the first three Million Dollar Sundays of the five we had scheduled, we overlaid a combined total of $560,000. That didn’t tickle one bit.
So we found an option that honored our commitment to our players in delivering $5 Million in guarantees, while offering sustainable tournaments that wouldn’t put too much strain on the average player’s wallet.
This decision will no doubt disappoint some of our clientele and we get it, but it’s the responsible move to satisfy the majority of our players and for us as a company overall.
We have had some positive feedback on the decision. Many who planned to play just one of the remaining events are now happy to have more opportunity to participate. Four $270 buy-in, $500k GTDs is still something to get pretty excited about if you’re a player living in the US. Up until we started running the Million Dollar Sundays tournaments this year, no other US facing site came even close to this size tournament.
And the bottom line is that this kind of growth is sustainable. Better for us to be able to start delivering $500,000 GTD tournaments more regularly and attracting new players to grow the overall poker economy, rather than decimate our players’ bankrolls over the course of six weeks.
We hope you understand the reasons for the change and continue to support us in our mutual goal to bring big prize pool poker back to the USA.
We wish you the best of luck in the upcoming four tournaments.
