Tom Cannuli went through long stretches of play on day one of the World Series of Poker main event final table without playing a hand. In fact, he didn’t take down his first pot until hand no. 32, about three hours into the ESPN broadcast.

But the 23-year-old poker player from New Jersey got involved on just the second hand of play on day two, and was an 80 percent favorite to double up off the short stack.

Cannuli raised to 1,400,000 from under the gun and the action folded around to Max Steinberg in the big blind. Steinberg moved all in, putting Cannuli and his 15 big blinds at risk.

Cannuli instantly called with ASpade SuitAClub Suit and Steinberg could only sheepishly reveal his 10Diamond Suit10Heart Suit. The flop, however, came JClub Suit10Spade Suit6Club Suit, giving Steinberg the lead with a set of tens.

The QDiamond Suit on the turn gave Cannuli additional outs to a Broadway straight, but the 8Spade Suit on the river sealed his fate. For his sixth place finish, Cannuli earned $1,426,283.

Card Player TV caught his post elimination press conference to learn more about his final hand and his support from the rail:
