In November the World Poker Tour announced that for the first time ever the season-ending WPT Championship would be replaced with a Tournament of Champions, pitting all of the winners from this season, whose buy-in to the tournament was awarded as part of their prize for winning, against champions from previous seasons who would have to buy-in for $15,000. Some players responded that they weren’t sure of the value of making the trip for an event populated entirely with players good enough to win a WPT main event.

Today the WPT announced a move that could assuage some of those concerns. The season ending festival, to be held for the first time at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, FL, was already set to play host to the $2 million guaranteed WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown, a $3,500 buy-in main event running from Apr. 14-20. The series has now added a $2 million guaranteed $10,000 buy-in no-limit hold’em main event called the WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Finale.

The new freezeout tournament will take place from Apr. 17-19 before pausing at the final table. This will be the final main tour event of the WPT season, and will award the final guaranteed entry into the rake-free WPT Tournament of Champions, which is set to run from Apr. 22-24.

“The addition of the WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Finale creates extra value for every player who participates in our season-ending festival at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino; offering them one last chance to clinch a massive prize and qualify for the historic WPT Tournament of Champions,” said WPT President and CEO Adam Pliska.

Today a new $1 million guaranteed $25,500 buy-in re-entry high roller event that begins on Apr. 19 was also announced. The final tables of these three huge events have been staggered to allow players the best opportunity to play as many of these tournaments as they choose. Each event’s final table will be live streamed, while the WPT Tournament of Champions final table will be filmed for television broadcast on Fox Sports Networks.

“We are proud to once again partner with Seminole for this immense festival of poker,” said Pliska. “With all three WPT final tables live-streamed, we welcome fans from around the globe to tune in to the electrifying conclusion of Season XIV of the World Poker Tour.”
