Poll Indicates New Jersey Casino Referendum A Coin Toss Right Now: ReportKeeping Brick-And-Mortar Casinos In AC Leads Slightly At The Moment |

A November statewide referendum on whether to end Atlantic City’s decades-long casino monopoly in New Jersey currently stands at about 50-50 of passing, according to a report Tuesday from NJ.com.
The report said that a Rutgers-Eagleton April 13 poll showed that 49 percent of respondents are in favor of keeping Las Vegas-style casino gambling in Atlantic City, while 44 percent are for casinos elsewhere in the Garden State.
Atlantic City has eight casinos and the two additional casinos have been proposed for north Jersey.
Compared to previous polling, the numbers reportedly are currently drifting toward keeping the Atlantic City monopoly, but anything could happen in the coming months. Atlantic City is where the state-approved online gambling sites are based out of, so there is Las Vegas-style gambling available all across the state, but the brick-and-mortar variety is limited to the seaside resort town.
In another twist to the saga of what to do about Atlantic City’s dire financial situation, the city countersued the state this week in an effort to stay afloat and keep control over its last remaining funds. New Jersey is contemplating a takeover of the city’s finances.
Atlantic City could also file for bankruptcy thanks to its crushing debt.
