In the wake of the World Series of Poker the tournament world takes a short and well-earned rest for a few weeks before things kick back into high gear in August. One of the top tournament series that has staked a claim as a late-summer mainstay is the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open. The 2016 SHRPO runs from July 28 – August 16 and is set to host 83 events along the way, ending with a bang in mid-August with ‘TheBig4’ events: four tournaments with huge guarantees that will all feature live-streamed final tables on Aug. 16.
The centerpiece of the series is the $5 million guaranteed $5,250 buy-in no-limit hold’em championship event that runs from Aug. 13 – 16. Last year saw Texas poker pro Omar Zazay outlast a field of 907 entries to win the title and the top prize of $1,000,000. 2014 champion of the event Daniel Colman came incredible close to defending his title, ultimately finishing in third place last year.
The championship event is of course part of the aforementioned ‘TheBig4’ tournaments, with the $1 million guaranteed $25,500 no-limit hold’em high roller, the $1 million guaranteed $2,650 no-limit hold’em and the $500,000 guaranteed $1,100 no-limit hold’em events rounding out the list.
Full-ring no-limit hold’em is far from the only game on offer during the series. There are H.O.R.S.E., Omaha eight-or-better and pot-limit Omaha events, as well as bounty, turbo and heads-up format no-limit hold’em events.
The series kicks off with a $500,000 guaranteed $360 buy-in no-limit hold’em re-entry event. There are six starting flights on offer, with 11 AM and 6 PM starting times on July 28 – 30.
Players will begin with 20,000 in chips and play 14 levels, each lasting 30 minutes. Those who make it through to day 2 will return at 1 PM on July 31 to play down to a winner.
