Poker rooms in the state of Pennsylvania raked a combined $4.9 million during August, according to figures released by the state Gaming Control Board.

There were 226 poker tables statewide between the 10 poker rooms. Pennsylvania has 12 brick-and-mortar casinos, so two of them don’t offer traditional poker games.

On the $4.9 million in rake, the casinos collectively paid $691,000 in state taxes. The rake was nearly unchanged from July and down just slightly from the $5 million raked in August 2015. The state added two poker tables year-over-year.

The poker market in Pennsylvania is experiencing modest growth, as the casinos reported $58.4 million in poker revenue in the 2015/16 fiscal year ending in June. That was up slightly from the $56.5 million in poker rake collected in FY 2014/15.

Pennsylvania poker revenue in August was better than New Jersey’s $4.5 million. Unlike Pennsylvania, the Garden State had $2 million come from online poker. Pennsylvania lawmakers are still taking a look at online poker legalization this year.

It’s been estimated that online casinos would eventually generate an additional $300 million a year in revenue for the casinos. In New Jersey, peer-to-peer online poker represents about 13 percent of overall online gaming revenue. New Jersey online casinos won $150 million from gamblers in 2015, which was the second full year of the Garden State having those games.

Total Pennsylvania table game revenue for August 2016 was $67 million, which was a 3.7-percent decrease compared to August 2015’s $70 million.

Parx Casino, which sits just outside Philly in Bensalem, led the way with $1.5 million in poker revenue. That casino had 46 poker tables in August.
