The final table is set in the second annual World Poker Tour Maryland Live! $3,500 no-limit hold’em main event and it is stacked. A total of 554 entries were made in 2016, up from 337 entries in the inaugural running, bringing the total prize pool of $1,772,800. After two starting days and two more days of combined action the field has been narrowed to just six players, all of whom are hoping to emerge victorious with the title and the first-place prize of $356,536.
The chip leader heading into the final day is Ryan Belz with 4,865,000. Close behind is two-time WPT main event winner Darren Elias with 4,515,000. Elias will be looking to become only the fifth player in poker history to win three titles on the main tour, but will face plenty of stiff competition including former online pro Mario Silvestri III (2,700,000), current WPT Player of the Year leader Benjamin Zamani (2,075,000) and three-time WPT final tablist Cate Hall (1,235,000).
Zamani had already made two final tables in the WPT’s 15th season, finishing runner-up both times. He earned $412,234 for his second-place showing at the WPT Choctaw main event and added another $341,412 this fall when he placed second in the WPT Legends of Poker at the Bicycle Hotel & Casino.
Cate Hall made three WPT final tables last season, including a fifth-place finish in the 2015 running of this event for $58,589. The remaining players are all now guaranteed a $68,554 payday.
The final six will return at 3 p.m. local time on Wednesday to play down to a champion.
