Shawn Busse has won the April running of 2017 Card Player Poker Tour Ocean’s 11 San Diego Clasic $250 buy-in no-limit hold’em event. The poker pro outlasted a massive field of 920 total entries, the largest CPPT event held yet at Ocean’s 11 Casino, to capture the title and the first-place prize of $48,910. This was Busse’s fifth largest score of his live tournament career, with his biggest cash coming when he won a $1,000 no-limit hold’em event at the 2010 World Series of Poker for $485,971 and a WSOP gold bracelet.
The event featured six starting flights, which drew 861 entries, as well as a Quantum Reload day 2 direct buy-in option that saw 59 players put up $1,500 to enter the final day of the event with an average stack of 120,000. As a result of the incredible turnout the event built a total prize pool of $238,100 which was distributed among the 116 players that made the money.
In addition to Busse there were a number of other players with impressive resumes who made deep runs in this event. Card Player columnist and poker triple crown winner Gavin Griffin finished 11th for $3,360. Although he has captured WSOP, World Poker Tour and European Poker Tour main event titles he still has yet to take down a CPPT tournament. Finishing right behind Griffin was Ebony Kenney, who placed 12th for $3,360. Kenney has over $220,000 in live earnings and was one of the WPT’s ‘Ones to Watch.’
Andrew Wisdom was the chip leader heading into the final day with 508,700 in chips. He ultimately finished in fourth place for $14,525.
Here is a look at the payouts awarded at the final table:

This was the third and largest CPPT event held at the legendary Ocean’s 11 Casino, which is celebrating the 20th anniversary of it’s opening this year. In April of 2016, Robert DeAgazio took home $23,813 for topping a field of 778 entries. In January of 2017, Barry Knowlton pocketed $17,157 after he outlasted a field of 582.
The CPPT will return for a fourth stop at Ocean’s 11 this summer, with the event running from July 20-23 so make sure to mark your calanders!
