A total of 81 players returned for day 2 action at the 2017 Card Player Poker Tour bestbet Jacksonville main event, with the plan of playing down to the money and then, the final table.

The action was fast to start the day, as 10 players hit the rail in the first 40-minute level. Overnight chip leader Jermaine “Lion” Gerlin, who started the day with 111 big blinds, was eliminated well before the money bubble.

It took fewer than 10 hands of hand-for-hand play to produce the bubble boy, Shawn Wheeling. The Jacksonville local was down to about 15 percent of the average stack in the room when he hit the rail, guaranteeing the final 48 players at least a $1,764 payday.

Play continued to be speedy after the money bubble burst, with an additional 10 competitors falling by the wayside over the next two levels.

Alexis CourtoisAlexis Courtois, who hails from France, will take the chip lead into the final table. Jared Reinstein entered day 2 with a modest stack, but he was able to survive to make back-to-back CPPT bestbet main event final tables. Reinstein finished eighth last year.

The final table will be streamed live on CardPlayer.com Monday afternoon at 2 p.m. ET. The blinds going into the final table will be 20,000-40,000 with a 5,000 ante, meaning the average stack of 1,050,000 is worth 26 big blinds.

The eventual champion will walk away with $75,714.

This year the $1,100 tournament drew 378 entries to create a $366,660 prize pool, blowing away the $200,000 guarantee. It also beat out last year’s $280,330 prize pool from 289 entrants. This is the fifth year in a row that the CPPT has traveled to Jacksonville.
