Billy BaxterThe legendary Billy Baxter is one of the original fixtures in the early Las Vegas poker scene, and yesterday, he won his second Five-Star World Poker Classic preliminary event, proving that his skill has withstood the test of time.

His first win came in event No. 6, a $2,500 buy-in no-limit hold’em tournament. Baxter defeated a stacked field of 149 players and took home nearly $150,000 of the more than $361,000 prize pool. It was in event No. 12, a $2,500 buy-in no-limit hold’em senior’s tournament, that Baxter won his second Five-Star World Poker Classic title. There were 137 entrants that contributed to the more than $332,000 prize pool. Baxter received the lion’s share of almost $139,000.

For winning an event, players are also rewarded with a $25,000 seat into the World Poker Tour Championship event. Since Baxter had already received a seat, he pocketed the extra $25,000. In addition to those two wins, he also made the final table in event No. 1, a $2,000 buy-in no-limit hold’em tournament. Baxter finished ninth out of 237 players for almost $7,000, making his total winnings in just this tournament series to about $321,000.
