Unibet Poker Revenue Falls 8 Percent

First Quarter 2009 Poker Revenue Down for Scandinavian Operator

Unibet, the publicly-quoted Scandinavian bookmaker, has reported poker revenue down 8 percent to £6.54 million in the first quarter of 2009 compared to £7.11 million in the first quarter of 2008.

Poker made up 30 percent of non-sports betting revenue in the most recent quarter compared to 34 percent a year earlier.

In its interim financial statement the company said, “Unibet Poker had a good quarter with record intake of new players however still a very competitive landscape in Scandinavia. The Unibet Open poker tournament carried on its successful development with a highly appreciated event in Budapest. Local versions of this tournament were also launched in Poland and the Czech Republic.

“On 21 March 2009 the Unibet poker TV show “Pokermilliomos” started to run in one of Hungary’s largest TV channels, Viasat 3.”

The company, which also offers sports betting, bingo, and casino, saw gross winnings revenue up 15.3 percent to £36.1 million from £31.3 million a year earlier while profit after tax for the first quarter of 2009 leapt to £10 million from £2.2 million in the corresponding period of 2008.
