Microgaming announced today that it will power the new female friendly poker site Maria Poker, according to Gaming Intelligence Group.

Maria Poker is a sister site to Maria Bingo which was acquired (along with the rest of Maria Holdings) by Unibet two years ago in an attempt to broaden coverage and appeal to female players.

The new site features an online poker school and a modern no-lobby interface. It comes at a time where the company is perhaps seeking a boost after reporting poker revenue down 8 percent for the first quarter of 2009.

CEO of Unibet and Maria Poker, Petter Nylander, said, “We are excited to launch Poker on the Maria brand, which is possibly the strongest female brand in Northern Europe. By implementing Microgaming’s platform on Maria Poker we can ensure that the products we offer are the most innovative and captivating, and well suited to the fun and feminine ethos of our newest gaming portal.”
