The latest winner of the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour Summer Series is John Angus from Edinburgh. The retired accountant beat deep-sea fisherman Pete Thomas in the Aberdeen main event when his pocket sixes made their set on the river all-in preflop versus Thomas’ A-8.

It was the first time a GUKPT event took place in Scotland, and after a healthy-enough 79 entries for the opening event, the £200 freezout, the main event saw only 42 players with a top prize of £7,870. Angus also won a seat into the £100,000 GUKPT Champion of Champions event kicking off on Dec. 5 at the G casino in London.

The final results of the Aberdeen main event were:

1st — John Angus — £7,870
2nd — Pete Thomas — £5,780
3rd — Nick Wright — £3,780
4th — Martin Sutcliffe — £2,100
5th — Graham Doherty — £1,470

Graham Doherty was also labeled “player of the series” after cashing in all three events at the festival.

The previous leg in Bolton was won by Kevin Parkes of Walsall after he beat 77 others to take down the top prize of £12,700. The Series heads to the Grosvenor casino in Walsall on Jun. 25 for the next and final leg. The main Tour then continues in August with its sixth leg in Luton. Its fifth leg was held in May in Newcastle and was won by 22-year-old Tony Phillips for a payday of £47,200.
