George, who was the Card Player Europe August cover star will pony up $500,000 to take on Tom Dwan heads up live over 500 hands with blinds of $500 and $1,000.

Players must play at least 500 hands and can only leave before this if they lose their initial buy in.

The Londoner, who has appeared on The Big Game and Poker Million televised tournament, said, “I’m buzzing – what could be sweeter than playing in the world’s biggest heads-up match against Durrrr? I’m stepping up to the plate and putting my money where my mouth is and it will be an honour to represent my country against the best the US has to offer.

“My message to Tom is – paper cannot wrap up a fire. With Phil Ivey and Patrick Antonius, you are talking about guys I rate quite highly. Guys like Durrrr to me are normal, you know, they’re nothing special.”

Eddie Hearn, managing director of Matchroom Sport which is organising the challenge, said: “I am delighted to welcome Sammy to the Durrrr Million Dollar Challenge. Sammy is one of the few players in the game who is willing to walk the walk rather than just talk the talk and although many will see him as underdog in this match, he has plenty of heart and should not be underestimated.”
