Jeff KimberThe eighth leg of the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour at the G Casino in Thanet attracted 132 players, which created a prize pool of £132,000. This is a drop in the attendance figure from last year when Andrew Teng outlasted a field of 226.

This year it was Darren Annis, a 38-year-old former I.T. consultant, who took the nicest slice from the top, scooping £41,900 for taking down the shortest GUKPT event in the tour’s history, after beating Jeff Kimber [pictured right] heads up. Annis also gets a seat in the £100,000 Champion of Champions tournament.

Jeff Kimber won a side event at the festival, beating an 111-strong field in the £200 no-limit hold’em freezeout earlier in the week.

Going into heads up play in the main event, the chip counts were:

Jeff Kimber — 722,000
Darren Annis — 609,000

With the chips going back and forth between the two, the final hand came when Annis raised to 45,000 and Kimber made the call. The flop came K-Q-Q and Annis bet 70,000. Kimber called and the turn fell a 10. Annis bet 100,000 and Kimber check-called. The river was a 5 and Kimber check-called Annis’ all in. Annis shows A-J and Kimber mucks.

Here are the final table payouts:

1st Darren Annis (£41,900)
2nd Jeff Kimber (£27,050)
3rd Lawrie Inman (£18,500)
4th Peter Charalambous (£11,550)
5th Andreas Achillea (£8,250)
6th James Morris (£6,600)
7th Robert Topp (£5,300)
8th Adam Vinson (£3,950)
9th Nigel Berg (£2,650)

The G Casino in Blackpool is the next, and final, leg of the regular tour for 2010. The Tour’s ninth main event this year kicks off on Nov. 12.
