PokerStars UKIPTPokerStars is at it again, placing another poker tour on the map and entrenching itself as the leader in international live poker tournaments.

The world’s largest poker site announced today the launch of the UK and Ireland Poker Tour. The first event for season one of the UKIPT will take place in Galway, Ireland, from Dec. 11-14, 2009. The live no-limit hold’em tournament will feature a buy-in of €2,000, and it will be hosted at the Radisson Hotel in Galway. The event will be a part of the Irish Poker Championships schedule. Satellites for the Galway event are now running on PokerStars.

“This is an incredibly exciting addition to the range of PokerStars live events. Here is our own local British and Irish tour, nicely accessible for those who can’t travel abroad very often or who save their foreign travel for larger international events,” said UK-based Team PokerStars pro Vicky Coren.

The tour will feature stops in three separate countries. Manchester, Coventry, Nottingham, Brighton, and the Grand Final in London will make up the England stops. Ireland will feature the stop in Galway, as well as stops at Killarney and Dublin. There will also be one stop in Scotland, but the location and dates for the event have yet to be announced.

Another feature for the tour — which may reflect the times and tastes of the poker-playing public in Europe — is that the tour will feature medium-sized buy-ins ranging from £500-£1,000 for English events, and €1,000-€2,000 buy-ins for Irish events. The London Grand Final features the largest buy-in at £5,000.

“The buy-ins are great, big enough to make chunky prize pools, not so big that they’re a huge drain on resources,” said Coren. “It’s about time there was a serious respected tournament with a £500 buy-in, like the new ones in Manchester, Coventry, and Nottingham.”

The £5,000 no-limit hold’em Grand Final will take place next October in London, in accordance with the EPT London event that will be hosted at the Metropole hotel on London’s West End. Each UKIPT champion during season one will be awarded a seat at the EPT London main event in addition to the prize money and tournament title they take home for the win.
