Phil IveyPoker lovers everywhere have been queuing up to place bets on Phil Ivey to win the World Series of Poker main event final this weekend, despite the fact he is seventh in chips. Now PartyBets.com has had to cut his odds from 5/1 to 7/2, which has in fact made him its new favorite to win.

Darvin Moon holds most of the chips in play yet has moved from 3/1 to 4/1. Eric Buchman is next at 9/2, Antoine Saout is priced at 16/1, James Akenhead is a 14/1 shot, and Card Player’s Jeff Shulman is at 6/1.

A PartyBets.com spokesman said, “Has the world gone mad? Ivey is a short stack and Moon is a massive chip leader with 30 percent of the chips in play. It just doesn’t make sense but the punters just keep coming for Ivey and we have had no choice but to make him favorite because of our large six figure liabilities and the consistent interest.

“If Ivey achieves what punters think he can it will be the worst poker result in bookmaking history.”

Punters can also take a shot at markets such as winning hand and color of the very last river card.

PartyPoker Ambassador Mike Sexton said, “Phil Ivey is the most well known pro to the public and this has to be a sentimental bet for action on the tournament. It is hard to imagine, more astonishing, that a player can be favourite with just 5 percent of the chips in play. I regard Ivey as the best player in the world and it would be nice to see him win but as everyone knows chips are power.”

Elsewhere, at Boylesports.com, Moon is priced at 7/2, Buchman is at 4/1, Ivey is at 9/2, both Steven Begleiter and Jeff Shulman are at 6/1, both Joe Cada and Kevin Schaffel see odds of 11/1, James Akenhead is a 12/1 shot, and Antoine Saout is last at 14/1.

PaddyPower is slightly different again. See below for odds:

Darvin Moon – 7/2
Eric Buchman – 4/1
Phil Ivey – 5/1
Jeff Shulman – 11/2
Steven Begleiter – 11/2
James Akenhead – 9/1
Kevin Schaffel – 10/1
Joe Cada – 12/1
Antoine Saout – 16/1

A poll on WorldSeriesofPoker.com revealed Ivey to be the people’s favourite to win with 78.05 percent of the votes. We won’t have to wait too long now to find out.
