Amer SulaimanThe $2,500 no-limit hold’em main event at the PokerStars Latin American Poker Tour Costa Rica stop welcomed back eight contestants to the final table on Sunday, Nov. 22. The final contestants had emerged from a field of 259 entrants, who created a prize pool worth $628,075. The final eight were all guaranteed at least $13,818, but they all had their hopes set on winning the top prize worth $172,095.

The first player to lose out on his chance to win that top prize on Sunday was Patrick De Koster. He moved all in preflop with A-7, and Eric Levesque made the call with pocket queens. The ladies held, and De Koster was eliminated in eighth place ($13,818). It took close to two hours for the next player to fall. Carlos Giron moved all in preflop with A-9, and Sol Bergren made the call with Q-J suited. A queen fell on the flop, and that was all Bergren needed to eliminate Giron in seventh place ($20,098).

Just a few minutes later, Darren Keyes decided to move all in preflop with A-7, and Amer Sulaiman made the call with A-K. The board fell 8-7-6-3-K to keep things interesting, but Keyes was behind on the river, and he was eliminated in sixth place ($26,380). An hour later, Francis-Nicolas Bouchard decided to move all in preflop with K-9, but it proved to be an ill-fated decision when Sulaiman made the call and flipped over pocket aces. The board provided some drama once again, this time falling K-J-10-6-A, and Bouchard was eliminated in fifth place ($32,660).

The pot that decided fourth place was a big one. Bergren raised to 120,000 preflop, and Eric Levesque reraised to 700,000. Bergren reraised all in, and Levesque made the call. Levesque turned over AClub Suit QDiamond Suit, and Bergren showed down 8Diamond Suit 8Club Suit. The board was dealt J-5-4-3-7, and the eights held to win a pot worth 2.285 million for Bergren. Levesque was eliminated in fourth place ($45,221). On the very next hand, Rogelio Pardo moved all in preflop, and Sol Bergren made the call. Bergren held pocket fives, and Pardo turned over A-3. The board was dealt K-8-6-4-5, and Pardo was eliminated in third place ($61,551).

Bergren was on a roll, and he took a stack worth 2,905,000 into heads-up play against Sulaiman, who held 2,280,000. The battle between the final two was a long one that lasted close to three hours before a winner was crowned. Sulaiman took the lead away from Bergren, and then he started to lean on his opponent to grow his lead into one that proved to be insurmountable. Sulamain held more than 4 million when the final hand took place. Bergren limped on the button preflop, and Sulaiman checked his option. The flop fell 10Heart Suit 5Spade Suit 4Club Suit, and Sulaiman checked. Bergren bet 90,000, and Sulaiman check-raised to 400,000. Bergren then moved all in for 600,000 total, and Sulaiman made the call. Their cards:

Bergren: 7Spade Suit 6Spade Suit
Sulaiman: 10Diamond Suit 7Heart Suit

Turn and River: AClub Suit and QHeart Suit

Bergren was eliminated in second place, and he took home $100,492 in prize money. Sulaiman was crowned the champion and awarded $172,095 for the biggest win in his career.
