The long Thanksgiving weekend may have slowed down action across the various online poker sites, but Isildur1 was still going strong in his quest to beat the best the poker world has to offer on Full Tilt Poker. Through several up-and-down matches, the unknown Swede finished down a relatively small amount overall. However, considering how he started the weekend, he had plenty to be thankful for.
Brian Townsend was the first challenger of the weekend, and he punished Isildur1 for roughly $1.1 million. The two played pot-limit Omaha for lower stakes than Isildur1 has recently become accustomed to, playing just $200-$400 blinds. Despite a small hiccup to start, Townsend led wire to wire and finished the session up roughly $1.1 million. It was an impressive feat, to be sure, but what made it remarkable was the fact that it was accomplished in just over 1,000 hands of play at those lowered stakes.
Isildur1 was not happy when Townsend quit the game, and Isildur1 ended up dropping an additional $267,000 to Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies before ending the day. However, that quarter of a million was just peanuts to Sahamies, who would go on to have the best weekend of any of the high-stakes players.
When Sahamies anted up again, he did so at what appeared to be a bad time. Isildur1 had just finished decimating Tom “durrrr” Dwan and Patrik Antonius to the tune of $2.5 million and seemed to be on top of his game. Nonetheless, it only took 90 minutes for Sahamies to eat into that profit with a $1.5 million win of his own. Isildur1 finished up a little under $1 million for the day, but likely felt sick after being up $2.5 million a short time before.
The next day, Sahamies and Isildur1 teamed up to blast Antonius for more than $1.8 million. Isildur1 picked up $1 million against Antonius over the course of 1,500 hands — not too bad, considering their history. However, Sahamies raked in $800,000 in just 240 hands against the Finnish pro. After going on quite the run, Antonius has now given back more than $3.5 million in the last week or so.
Isildur1 got some more action on Sunday when he and Sahamies continued to battle it out at the $500-$1,000 pot-limit Omaha tables. In just an hour, Sahamies surged up $1.3 million in profit for the session. The two started to trash talk each other in the chat, and when Sahamies prepared to leave the game, Isildur1 accused the Finnish player of a hit and run. Sahamies eventually rejoined the game, but perhaps he shouldn’t have. Not only did Isildur1 come back to even things up, but he also picked up $1.3 million in profit, as well.
Incredibly, the two players resumed their session late into the night, and Sahamies finished up — yes, you guessed it — $1.3 million.
