While the Australia New Zealand Poker Tour (ANZPT) just launched in February, its initial success has led the company to add new tour stops and the promise of additional events in its second season. PokerStars announced yesterday the dates of the first six events of its second season, highlighted by a brand-new venue in Perth.
“We are thrilled to be a part of the ANZPT,” said Jason Barry, the general manager of table games at the Burswood Entertainment Complex in Perty. “We feel this is just what our players have been waiting for, and we expect big numbers will take part in the first PokerStars.net ANZPT Perth tournament.”
In all, PokerStars identified the following six cities for its second season — Adelaide, Perth, Sydney, Queenstown, Gold Coast, and Melbourne. While the buy-in for Melbourne has not yet been established, the entry for all of the other events ranges from $2,200 to $3,000 AUD.
More than 1,300 players competed in the first season of the ANZPT, and nearly $3 million was doled out throughout the year. Team PokerStars pro Tony Hachem, brother to the 2006 world champ Joe Hachem, was named the overall champion of the tour after cashing in four of five events.
“The ANZPT provides Australian and New Zealand poker players with a professionally-executed tour in their own backyard,” said Danny McDonagh, the commissioner of the tour. “The ANZPT Player of the Year is now clearly the most coveted poker award in this region.”
PokerStars.net will be running two freerolls a night for players looking to get into Adelaide event for free.
The information for the first six events on the season is listed below, but PokerStars says that players can and should expect more venues and events added in the months to come.
