Tom DwanIt’s no secret that the Durrrr Challenge has started to get a bit stale with the lack of action in the past year, but last week Tom Dwan and Patrik Antonius resumed their match and put a significant dent in the contest’s hand requirements, putting in more than 2,000 hands.

On Wednesday, the two logged 1,256 hands at $200/$400 pot-limit Omaha in what was mostly a lackluster session. Antonius jumped out to a nice $230,000 lead thanks to a couple six-figure pots. But toward the end of play, Dwan won the biggest pot of the night, a $118,389 monster thanks to his rivered straight.

All told, Dwan salvaged the day by only giving up $58,781 to Antonius. The next day would be a different story altogether.

Many were stunned when the two got together for another round on Thursday. Consecutive sessions in this challenge have been few and far between, but without Isildur1 around to generate any action, Dwan and Antonius were ready to satisfy their need for action.

Only 892 hands were played, but this time it was Dwan who got the best of it, picking up a total of $199,442. Surprisingly, it was Antonius who won two of the three biggest pots of the session, but Dwan more than made up for that with a large number of smaller hands and one hefty pot.

On the biggest hand of the night, Antonius raised to $1,200, and Dwan reraised to $3,600. Antonius called, and the two saw a flop of ASpade Suit 9Club Suit 7Spade Suit.

Dwan checked, Antonius bet $6,000, and Dwan check-raised to $22,000. Antonius called, and the turn was the QHeart Suit. Dwan bet $51,600, and Antonius raised all in for his last $70,615. Dwan called and showed JSpade Suit 8Spade Suit 6Diamond Suit 5Diamond Suit for the spade and wrap draw, but he was up against the AClub Suit KClub Suit QClub Suit 2Heart Suit of Antonius for top two pair.

Patrik AntoniusAccording to the Card Player Omaha Odds Calculator, Antonius was a 55 percent favorite to hold and scoop the pot. Instead, the 5Heart Suit hit the river, giving Dwan the winning 9-high straight. The total pot of $192,829.50 was the difference in the match and allowed Dwan to retain his overall lead.

All told, the two have played 31,912 hands of the 50,000 total, and Dwan is now up a whopping $1,077,932.50. They have only averaged about 638 hands per session thus far, but look for Antonius to stretch that number down the homestretch as he hunts for opportunities to get out of the hole.
