PokerStars announced the dates and destinations for season 7 of the European Poker Tour today. The current tour schedule consists of 12 tournament stops and there will be one new stop in Tallinn, Estonia, from Aug. 11-16 to kick off the season. Tallinn was previously the host city for the PokerStars Baltic Festival in October last year, and more than 300 players participated.
John Duthie (pictured right), CEO and EPT founder, said: “The EPT just gets bigger and better every season, and it shows the passion and enthusiasm players feel for our events. Season 6 had a thousand more players than in season 5, and we expect the numbers to keep on growing. The prize pool last season was well over €56 million — a €4 million increase on the previous year. Side events also proved a major attraction in season 6, and we expect participation in these to increase even more next season.”
Some popular new events from season 6 are featured on the new schedule for a sophomore run. The popular golf destination in Vilamoura, Portugal, will host the second event of the season on August 28-September 2. EPT Snowfest will once again take place in late March at the ski village of Saalbach-Hinterglemm, Austria. EPT Berlin will also be back in 2011, and it has been moved from the beginning of March to the start of April.
Events from last year that are not a part of the season 7 schedule include EPT Kiev and EPT Warsaw, which drew 296 players and 203 players respectively during season 6. EPT favorites that are once again on the schedule include tour staples Barcelona, Prague, Deauville, Copenhagen, San Remo, and the Festivals of Poker that take place in London and at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure.
The same tournament structure that was used for season 6 will be back for season 7 of the tour. Players will begin with 30,000 in chips in EPT main events and the blinds will begin at 50-100. Levels will be 60 minutes long on day 1 and increase to 75 minutes thereafter.
Online satellites for the first event of the new season at EPT Tallinn will begin running in mid-June on PokerStars.com and buy-ins will start at just a few dollars.
