PokerStars Caribbean Adventure -- Day 4

Ana Marquez and Chris Moneymaker Lead the Way into the Penultimate Day at the Main Event in the Bahamas

Ana MarquezThere were 48 players when action began on day 4 at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure $10,000 no-limit hold’em main event. Of those 48 players just two were woman, but by the end of the night, one of those female contenders sat at the top of the leader board. Spanish poker player Ana Marquez is the overnight chip leader with 3,805,000.

Marquez won a huge pot against Philippe Plouffe when she flopped a set of jacks to top the turned set of nines held by her opponent. That 2.5 million pot sent her on a journey to the top and she never looked back. Marquez also took out Ilan Rouch on her way to the top. If she makes the final table tomorrow she has a shot to score the largest tournament win ever by a woman thanks to the massive $2.3 million first-place prize.

Chris MoneymakerRight on her heels is Team PokerStars pro Chris Moneymaker, who is the final team pro remaining in the tournament with 3,765,000. Moneymaker will be looking to book his second major title after winning the most famous final table of all time at the 2003 World Series of Poker main event. Moneymaker played well throughout the day, he started the day in the top five, and by the end of the night he had improved even further, settling in the on-deck circle. Card Player caught up with Moneymaker during day 4 and he shared his thought on his tournament so far.

Other top professionals that are still in the tournament include Mike Sowers (3,180,000 – catch a live reporting level sweat with Sowers) and Sam Stein (3,085,000). Some of the big names that fell on day 4 include Adam Geyer, John Spadavecchia, Eric Froehlich, and Eddy Sabat. The eliminations fell quickly throughout day 4, and it took less than six hours to reach the final 24. Three eliminations fell almost simultaneously at the end of the night, meaning just 22 players remain.

Be sure to tune in tomorrow for play-down action on the penultimate day of the PCA main event. The PokerStars blog feed will bring you live updates from the tournament and Card Player and Card Player TV will bring you feature news stories and videos to provide further insight into the event. Play will begin at noon EST and it won’t end until the final table of eight is reached.
