Aussie Millions -- Main Event Day 4

Day 4 at the 2009 Aussie Millions Poker Championship $10,500 AUD no-limit hold’em main event turned into a long, slow crawl to the final table, and the end of the night did not come until 2 a.m. The early going was very tough on the professionals left in the field, and with the elimination of Sorel Mizzi in 16th place, only Barny Boatman remained in the hunt as a notable player. As the amateurs took over the tournament, so did a slow pace of play. Many pots were raise-and-take-it poker as players depended upon all-in bets to make their decisions for them, and more often than not, everyone decided to fold to the player displaying the most aggression at the table. The enticing first-place prize must have been dancing in the players’ heads as an irresistible prize as the tournament slowed down to a near halt when two six-handed final tables remained.

When things finally came to an end, Boatman was clinging to life with 349,000, the short-stack left in the field. Zachary Fellows moved all in preflop, and Peter Rho called him down. Their cards:

Fellows was eliminated in ninth place and he will take home $100,000 AUD in prize money. The tournament staff decided to end the day with eight players as opposed to the planned seven after the hand.

Annica Ivert Eliminated in 11th Place ($80,000 AUD)

Annica Ivert raised to 70,000 preflop, and Barny Boatman reraised all in for 458,000. Ivert made the all-in call and they turned up their hands:

Ivert busted out of the tournament in 11th place, and she will take home $80,000 AUD in prize money.

Gran Levy Eliminated in 13th Place ($65,000 AUD)

Stewart Scott raised to 40,000, and Grant Levy moved all in for 450,000. Scott called, and they flipped up their cards:

Scott won the hand, and Levy was eliminated in 13th place. The Aussie will take home $65,000 AUD in prize money.

Sorel Mizzi Eliminated in 16th Place ($65,000 AUD)

Peter Rho raised to 35,000, and Zachary Fellows made the call. Sorel Mizzi reraised to 120,000, and Rho mucked. Fellows reraised all in, and Mizzi made the call for his tournament life. Their cards:

Mizzi was eliminated on the hand in 16th place, and he will take home $65,000 AUD in prize money.

Michael Tureniec Eliminated in 19th Place ($50,000 AUD)

Zach Gruneberg raised from the button preflop, and then Michael Tureniec moved all in for 132,000 from the big blind. Gruneberg called him down, and they turned up their cards:

Tureniec was eliminated by the straight on the river, and he will take home $50,000 AUD in prize money after beginning the day with the chip lead.

Annette Obrestad Eliminated in 21st Place ($50,000 AUD)

Rajkumar Ramakrishnan raised to 30,000 preflop, and Annette Obrestad moved all in. Rajkumar called her down, and they flipped up their cards:

Obrestad was eliminated in 21st place, and she will take home $50,000 AUD in prize money. Rajkumar continued his dominance by building his stack close to 2 million.
