Ali TekintamgacThe World Poker Tour Spanish Championship ended today when Ali Tekintamgac (pictured right) topped a field of 326 opponents to win €315,000, a $25,000 seat in the 2011 WPT Championship and a Tiffany bracelet. Tekintamgac scored his first major tournament win to go along with his first tournament cash, which he scored at the European Poker Tour Grand Final in Monte Carlo (125th place) earlier this month. “I couldn’t feel any better now,” said Tekintamgac. “I have been playing poker for 20 years but it was only recently that I thought I would go for it on the big stage and take part in major tournaments.”

The final table took place today in Barcelona, Spain. Here is a look at the chip counts at the start of the final table:

Ali Tekintamgac – Germany – 1,522,000
Manuel Blaschke – Austria – 849,000
Roberto Santiago – Spain – 573,000
Bartolome Romero – Spain – 530,000
Manuel Cozar – Spain – 366,000
Erik Iremark – Sweden – 352,000
Emil Mattsson – Sweden – 288,000
Mads Hansen – Denmark – 287,000
Tristan Clemencon – France – 139,000

Manuel Cozar was the first player to fall in ninth place (€21,400) when he moved all in with A-Q and Tekintamgac made the call with pocket nines. Tristan Clemencon then doubled up twice and Mads Hansen doubled up once before Bartolome Romero moved all in with pocket sixes against both Manuel Blaschke (J-J) and Mats Erik (A-K). The jacks held and Romero was eliminated in eighth place (€31,000). A short time later Emil Mattsson moved all in with A-J but Roberto Santiago woke up with pocket kings. There was no comeback in store for Mattsson, who busted in seventh place (€41,000).

Clemencon’s run finally came to an end in sixth place (€51,000) when his queen-high fell to the king-high of Blaschke. Mats Erik doubled up twice and then Hansen took a bad beat to fall in fifth place (€61,000). Hansen held A-J and Blaschke made the call with A-10. The board fell K-7-4-J-Q and Blaschke made a straight on the river to win the hand. Blashcke’s luck then ran out in when he decided to move all in with K-8 and ran right into the pocket aces of Tekintamgac. Another ace fell on the board and Blaschke was out in fourth place (€71,000).

Erik Iremark was the next player to move all in and he did so with pocket queens on an 8-7-3 board. It didn’t matter though, because Tekintamgac woke up once again with pocket aces. An ace fell on the board again as well and sealed Iremark’s fate in third place (€81,000). That gave Tekintamgac 4.1 million in chips to take into the final against Roberto Santiago, who held just 800,000. Santiago moved all in quickly with 9Diamond Suit 8Heart Suit preflop and Tekintamgac held QClub Suit 5Club Suit. The board was dealt AHeart Suit KHeart Suit 5Heart Suit QDiamond Suit 2Diamond Suit and Santiago was eliminated in second place (€160,000). Tekintamgac won the hand and the tournament to take home the top prize worth €315,000.

The next WPT event is the Bellagio Cup VI, which will take place in Las Vegas from July 11-16.
