There were 66 players remaining when play began on day 3 of the 2010 World Series of Poker Europe £10,350 no-limit hold’em main event. The field played down to the final 22 players rather quickly during five levels of poker action today. It was a contest between some of the best players in the world in the most talented tournament field of the year.
Some themes that had become routine at the WSOP Europe saw their consecutive runs come to an end today, which opened the door for fresh faces and established professionals to stake their claim for poker glory in London.
Daniel Negreanu appeared at the final table of this event the last two years running, but he won’t be making a three-peat conquest in 2010. Negreanu made his exit on the way to the money bubble at about the midway point of the day. Another theme that died today was the fact that there won’t be a November Nine player at the final table of this event for the first time since the WSOP main event final has been contested in November. John Dolan was the final November Niner standing, but he too fell before the money bubble could burst. Other notables who left the tournament empty handed today included Nick Schulman, J.P. Kelly, Nam Le, Matt Stout, Daniel Shak, Eli Elezra, Quinn Do, Markus Golser, and Huck Seed.

Phil Ivey came very close to his first WSOP main event win last November, but things did not go his way at the final table. He is inching ever closer to another attempt here in London and he was a familiar name on the leader board, often haunting the top position in the tournament. Another intriguing contender that spent some time as the chip leader today is Viktor Blom, the young Swedish maniac that is the alleged Isildur1. The questions about his identity will only increase if he makes the final table tomorrow. Other big names that are in the hunt for the final table include Hoyt Corkins, Arnaud Mattern, Barny Boatman, Jani Sointula, Greg Mueller, and Roland de Wolfe.
Be sure to tune back in tomorrow at noon local time (4 a.m. PST) to see who will make the final table of nine. Everyone will walk away with prize money tomorrow, but the true value will be found on the final day of this tournament and that is what all the current survivors will all be gunning for when play resumes.
