Beer Pong

I just got back from being introduced to Beer Pong, at the Brunson Invitational Beer Pong Tournament. I was pretty scared going in, as I had no idea how much beer drinking playing this game involved and I am not much of a drinker anymore. I used to drink heavily from 18 to 25 yrs of age, then occasionally from 25 to 35, since then I have lost the taste for it . I never quit drinking, I just kind of burned out and it lost its appeal. Hangovers seamed to be getting harder to shrug off, as well. Now I rarely drink enough to catch a buzz, maybe twice a year or so.

When I was younger the drinking games wer Quarters and Mexicali, I don't know if it was regional or Beer Pong didn't come along till later. So, anyways, I was invisioning having to drink ten or more beers. As it turned out we lost our first match in which we were forced to consume a total of 1.1 beers each. I didn't even have to call in the ride home I had arranged.

You play with a partner. Mine was Lee Markholt. He had never played before either, and thought we had to drink a whole beer for each ball made. It was actually 1/5th of a beer for each ball.

It was a lot of fun. We matched up against Liv Boeree and John Friedberg. They jumped out to an 8-1 lead but we got the down to within one cup before they put us away.

Liv and John were pretty good, but I think the Jeff Madsen and Branden Cantu team is the favorite, after bumping of the local champs, followed closely by Todd Brunson and "Gank" team. I thought the Binger brothers were going to be tough, but they lost a very tough and exciting first match to a couple kids from Minesota that will also be tough.

Well, we'll get em next year, now that we know what to expect.
