On the flop Huge bet 45,000, and Spindler called. On the turn Huge bet 75,000, and Spindler called. On the river Huge bet 100,000, Spindler went all-in, and Huge called.

Analysis

There was 88,000 in the pot as Spindler faced Huge’s raise. His cards were low but they were coordinated and he was getting nearly 3:1 on his call in position. Huge flopped a gutshot straight draw along with his overcard to the Ace, and he tried to maintain control of the hand by leading out. Spindler also flopped a gutshot straight draw, his holding was looking pretty weak at this point but he decided to float, calling his opponent’s bet hoping to use position later in the hand. Huge made top pair on the turn, and he continued with another bet. Spindler elected to float again, this was a dangerous spot for him because an Ace is certainly in the range of hands that raise from the small blind. Huge went for value on the river, some players would prefer a check-call line here. In response, Spindler tried to utilize the threat of Huge’s tournament life by moving all-in with the nut low! Huge was still deep enough to talk himself into a fold, but he came up with a very nice call. Spindler’s strategy to float and make the hero play backfired, and he was left with just under 8 big blinds. Spindler picked up Queens on the next hand, but he did not have enough chips to get a preflop fold at that point and he was eliminated by K-10. Spindler earned €126,000 for his 6th place finish. Huge went on to finish in 4th for €251,000.
