Preflop, with the blinds at 3,000 and 6,000 and a 1,000 ante, Tazon went all-in from the button, Miettinen called in the small blind, Mroczek went all-in from the big blind, and Miettinen called and was all-in.
Tazon made the right play with his chip position as he woke up with an Ace on the button once the action folded to him, but he unfortunately ran into some big hands in the blinds. Miettinen contemplated a reraise but instead set a crafty trap for a side pot. Mroczek knew his wired Eights could fare well against Tazon’s range, and he expected a fold from Miettinen once he moved in. The play could yield Mroczek 2:1 on his money once Miettinen folded which would be a nice result if racing against two overcards – and Mroczek could even have Tazon dominated. Miettinen surprised Mroczek with the insta-call, and while Tazon gave Miettinen a nice sweat with the four flush and overcard to the Ace, that was a small matter compared to the juicy side pot in which Mroczek was drawing very thin. Tazon was teased with the prospect of the triple-up, but he missed and was eliminated in 61st for £8,750. Miettinen must have been stunned when the river peeled, the massive pot slipping through his fingers as he busted out in 60th, for £8750, after setting an excellent trap. Mroczek finished the day with the chip lead, which he put to good use on his run to the final table where he ultimately finished in 7th for £104,200, his largest cash to date.
