Preflop, final table, heads-up, with the blinds at 15,000 and 30,000 and a 4,000 ante, Urbanovich called on the button, and Drinan checked. On the flop Drinan checked, Urbanovich bet 40,000, and Drinan called. On the turn Drinan checked and Urbanovich checked. On the river Drinan bet 80,000, Urbanovich raised to 275,000, and Drinan called.
Drinan check called the flop with second pair, essentially bluff catching while out of position. After Urbanovich checked behind on the turn, Drinan had a strong inkling he didn’t need to worry about the Queen. With such a coordinated board offering both straight and flush draws, it seemed unlikely that Urbanovich would have given Drinan a free card on the turn. So Drinan led out for value on the river, where Urbanovich tried to use position and get creative with a raise. This play might have worked if Drinan was making a busted draw play, but Drinan quickly called with his winning second pair. Drinan approached a 2:1 lead after the hand and appeared well on his way to capturing the title, but Urbanovich ultimately came from behind to win his first major and €572,300. Drinan scored €397,800 for his runner up finish.
