Shulman Duo Accomplish Rare World Series of Poker FeatFather and Son Make it to Both WSOP Main Event Final Tables in Same Year |

It’s a good year to be a Shulman.
Nine years after he finished seventh in the World Series of Poker main event, Jeff Shulman navigated his way through a 6,494-player field to land himself at his second WSOP main event final table in the past decade. He enters November’s play fourth in chips.
As if that wasn’t exciting enough for the Shulman family, dad Barry Shulman is showing that he hasn’t lost a step either as he is fighting to take down the World Series of Poker Europe main event final table today in London.
Barry Shulman is battling against a slew of talented opponents at this year’s WSOPE championship final table, including Daniel Negreanu, Jason Mercier, and Matt Hawrilenko, as well as two of Jeff’s November Nine competitors in James Akenhead and Antoine Saout.

Although a number of the 2009 November Nine participated in the WSOPE this year, Jeff Shulman was not one of them. He is spending time with his family and newborn baby daughter, Lucy. But he told Poker Buzz on Card Player TV this week that he would be rooting on his father from Las Vegas.
“Wow, there would be nothing better than watching dad win over there,” said Jeff Shulman. “For the next couple days, all my focus will be on him, sending the good vibe from Vegas.”
Although slightly outdone by his son’s main event performance this summer, Barry Shulman had a solid summer at the World Series this year even before he made his way across the pond. He final tabled Event No. 14, the six-handed limit hold’em event, eventually finishing in fifth place. Brock Parker took that bracelet for one of his two of the summer, defeating Negreanu in heads-up play.
Barry Shulman has one WSOP bracelet, for a $1,500 seven card stud hi-lo event in 2001.
Barry and Jeff Shulman have been at the epicenter of the poker community for several years now, as the two serve as publishers of Card Player. Barry is also the chairman and CEO of the company, while Jeff is the president and COO. But now they are at the biggest stage in arguably the two biggest poker tournaments of the year.
Final tabling both WSOP main event final tables is an amazing feat in what has been an impressive year for the Shulman family, but it’s not over yet. As of 10:00 a.m. PDT, Barry Shulman sits second in chips with just eight remaining.
“There’s a lot of work for both of us to do to get the victories,” Jeff Shulman told Card Player TV.
This is just the third year of the WSOPE’s existence, but ever since its inception, its main event has always been regarded as one of the major tournaments that pros want to win. WSOP main event bracelets are hard to come by, and most of the top pros enter these events hoping to outplay the relatively smaller fields (compared to the WSOP in Las Vegas) and earn a hefty paycheck.
Annette Obrestad shocked the poker world when she won the inaugural main event as a teenager in 2007, and respected pro and four-time bracelet winner John Juanda conquered a talented final table to win the 2008 WSOPE main event.
