At a time when children dream of reindeer on rooftops, glowing candles in windows, and brightly wrapped packages, Commerce Casino goes the extra mile to deliver holiday dreams to area youth. In fact, the Crowne Plaza Hotel at Commerce Casino's beautiful Crowne Ballroom was recently transformed into a winter wonderland. Although there were no names of distinguished casino patrons or high-limit players on the guest list, one could not help but notice the red carpet treatment that characterized this annual charity-minded event. Needless to say, the guests of honor included some very special VIPs - the community's children.

Hosted and sponsored by Commerce Casino on behalf of the city of Commerce each year, the Children's Holiday Party represents just one of the many contributions to the community that distinguishes Commerce Casino. Featuring a delicious "child's dream" buffet, not to mention visions of sugarplums, party favors, toys, balloons, clowns, elves, and a special visit by old St. Nick himself, the annual event is responsible for generating hundreds of holiday smiles and memories for countless children. What's more, a special holiday gift is placed in every child's hand before they leave the party.

"There's no way to explain how much it pleases us to see the look on the children's faces when they receive their gifts. Their smiles say everything," explained Nancy Friedman, Commerce Casino's marketing and advertising manager.

According to Friedman, Commerce Casino's annual holiday party for local children represents an ongoing tradition that reflects the casino's commitment to charity work through direct contributions and community-based activities.

As host and sponsor, Commerce Casino assumes all costs, coordinates all details, and works in conjunction with the city of Commerce to ensure that all party guests have a truly memorable holiday experience. The guest list, which includes children 12 years of age and younger, as well as their parents, is determined by city officials, using specified criteria and an established selection process. Children are eligible for attendance based upon several key factors, including household income and referrals. In addition to the members of casino management and support staff, other guests in attendance include city officials, sheriff's officers, and community leaders.

"The Children's Holiday Party is one of our most heartfelt and celebrated means of giving back to the community. We put a lot of thought and effort into this event each year, and feel privileged to do so," added Friedman.

While card players throughout the world associate Commerce Casino with high-stakes poker games and blackjack action, it's refreshing to see that many Los Angeles-area children are also treated to an exceptional event every holiday season. For one glorious afternoon in December, Commerce Casino definitely had a full, and happy, house.diamonds
