Like Father, Like Son

As I search for words to describe the spectacular feat that the Shulmans’ have accomplished over the past few months it’s really not surprising that spectacular, remarkable and even unbelievable are the words that come to mind.

To make a final table in any World Series of Poker event is a special thing. But to make the final table in the main event. Well that just brilliant. It catapults you into a very elite club where everyone wants to be. And it’s in this elite club that the very talented Jeff Shulman finds himself in with November only a handful of sunsets away. It’s the month when the new champ will be crowned.

Now, it’s fair to say that this accomplishment alone would bring pride enough to any family. It would have you rooting for tissues and put a lump in ones throat. So can you even imagine how the Shulman’s must have felt after another family member (Barry) traveled across the pond to take on Europe’s best in the WSOPE Europe main event in London and win it with a heroic effort?

Well they just had to be beaming right. But sure why stop there. After all if you’re gonna do it you may as well do it in style” and that’s what the big man Barry Shulman did. To win his bracelet he had to maneuver his way through an absolutely stacked final table only to find himself heads up against arguably one of the top five best players in game today (Daniel Negreanu). And to beat him, well…take me now.I’ve seen it all. It doesn’t get more stylish than that my friends.

For a father and son to make a final table in WSOP main events in the same year on different continents will almost certainly never be done again. And it’s for this reason that you can throw the word fantastic into the mix as well. If Jeff somehow manages to win in November – and believe me he’s good enough to do it – then people will write songs and stories about them both.

I’ll leave you with this, a final note: We must also give a shout out to “King James” Akenhead for his remarkable achievement also in making it to the same two final tables. Well done my son.

I’ll be talking again soon so keep an ear out.
