One Crazy Hand

Had a good first day at The Borgata playing live action at a decent table. The most interesting hand, which I folded some trash pre-flop, happened between 2 players that really scared the heck out of me. There were a bunch of limpers and someone raised 5 big blind’s and there were 3 callers to the flop. The flop come 5 7 9 rainbow and it’s checked to an aggressive player who bets about the pot and gets one caller behind him. A queen comes on the turn and the first guy checks and the guy who called the flop bet bets about 80% of the pot and the other player immediately check raises all in. Here’s where it starts to get interesting. They start talking, and the guy who moved all in says “just fold, I have you crushed.” The other guy trying to decide what to do says, “I’m not good enough to fold this hand, how about show me one of your cards?” The chatter goes on for a while and finally the guy that is all in says “I’ll show you one card if you show me one.”

They both agree and the all in guy shows a six and the other guy shows a nine. Then the guy that’s all in shows his second card which is an eight for the nut straight. The other guy shows his other nine for second set and folds. What adds weirdness to the situation is that the guy with the nines has 65% of his chips in the pot. In his situation having flopped top set and then putting 2/3 of your chips in the pot its awful hard to fold with the flop laying you better than 5:1 even if you know your opponent has a straight, and for me before I know that, with those stack sizes the way the hand played, I’m snap calling there with 3 nines. You could make a case for folding if you are deeper, although I think it’s a bad fold here without a doubt, but I give the guy credit for getting his opponent to show his hand. If I’m that guy, I’m obviously never showing my hand there, I, 100% of the time want the call, unless of course the board pairs.
