Rush Events, Hellmuth Family Poker

I have been playing online at Full Tilt a huge amount lately. Mostly rush poker tournaments and cash games. I have had a fair amount of success with the pot limit Omaha H/L. I really love the game and the fact that it’s been going well makes it that much better. I have for wins and a 2nd in the past few weeks. Now these are small stakes mostly re-buy events. There are several things about these events that are attractive, 1st is that with the average event of 1,000 people by the end of the re-buy period it is already down to less than half the field, sometimes much less. Also, many players fail to make an adjustment from the re-buy to the later stages of the tournament that require a tighter style. The 2nd thing I love is that the tournaments go quickly. The ability to get through a tournament with 1,000-2,000 runners in a few hours is great. I wish Full Tilt ran more rush events, even some 90 player sit and go’s would be great.

I am headed to Washington DC this Thursday for a charity event with Omega Watches to benefit St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Next up will be an event with Phil Hellmuth for Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. This past weekend I played a small charity event with Phil during the activities surrounding his sister’s wedding. It was the first time I can remember seeing Phil without a hat on. I got a chance to spend time with his family and my wife and brother were there as well, it was really a fun evening. The last longer bets between the various Hellmuth’s were hilarious. Phil’s brother and son were determined to beat him. I know many love to hate him, but he is a great family man, father, husband, brother, son, and has always been a good friend to me.
