Day 2 Aussie Millions

Aussie Millions day 2. Today is Pot limit Holdem 1,100 buy in. Around 135 players and a similar structure except no antes and no pre flop open shoving (unless very short stacked). It was an interesting day for me. Almost made the dinner break, which was around 40 players. I had no aces or kings, no straights, flushes or sets, not even one, but I was able to make some good moves and win with top and 2nd pair. Finally started to get short, about 40% of average, there was a mid position 3BB raise by a pretty aggressive player, the button called, and I look down at J J in the small blind. I potted for about 60% of my chips. The initial raiser, who had double my chips called. The button mucked. The flop comes 10 8 2 rainbow. I then push the rest of my chips in and the other player thinks for a minute, which always seems like an eternity, and says "sorry mate, I have to call." I am going to get back to this "I have to call" in a minute. He turns over 9 7 and you guessed it, I make my set on the turn, river a brick and I get to have wine with dinner.

So everyone has pet peeves, and maybe I have more than most, certainly according to one or two of my ex-girlfriends, maybe that's why they are ex, anyway one of the statements I dislike most in poker is when someone says "I have to call." First of all, you never have to call, you want to call. There is really very little you have to do in this world other than death and taxes. Sometimes the situation dictates what you think is a must call situation, and you act accordingly. The answer is obvious but, the person was like one of those kids you went to school with who would ask a question to try and show how smart they are. So instead of saying; "I have to call", just say; "call." I sometimes feel like "I have to call" is almost like a slow roll.
