Aussie Million Bounty Event

Today was the Bounty Event, which is a $1,650 buy in no limit holdem tournament with one bounty player at each table. It started with approximately 375 people and for the first 6 hours I slowly chipped up. I have to say playing for the first time as a player with a $1,000 bounty going to the one who knocks you out is interesting. I found many players, playing me much more aggresively than I would expect. In addition, you had a max of 20 second to act, which I thought was great. It made for more play.

After the dinner break I had about average chips and on one of the first hands back, the small blind who was a good player, pushed all in on my big blind. The blinds were 400/800 and he had about 8,500 in chips. I looked down at 2 Queens and called. He showed A K off. Neither hand improved hand improved and I was up to about 22k in chips. I then lost 4 sizable pots, two as a favorite, one a coin flip, and of course the last one I had A J against A K. Ben Savage, a local Aussie, raised 3 BB out of the small blind in an unopened pot. I looked down at the AJ and pushed all in for about 7 BB's, he of course insta-called. The board bricked out and I went up to the room, finishing about 70th. I am a little disappointed because my favorite dealer Linh, a Tasmanian, didn't come through for me. I was sure a Jack was coming. Perhaps the term "Tasmanian Devil" is well deserved. It's nice to be able to blame the dealer, seeing as I got my money in so good on that last hand.

Some good news for the day, Anna Wroblewski finished 7th today in the rebuy event which began yesterday. Our tables were back to back all afternoon and I was able to watch some of her play, which was impressive. She was short stacked all day and basically survived from the14 who remained from yesterdays field. I was very happy to see Anna at a second final table, she is playing great and seems to have captured the attention of the Aussie's.

I would also like to thank the really terrific staff of the Crown Poker Room. Brett Jones and Jonno Pittock, the directors of the tournament, go above and beyond to put on a great tournament.
