The LAPC Main Event

I played until late last night and had some success in a mixed game. I got to sleep late and am going to take it easy today and not really play much. Everybody is arriving, the cash games are filling up and the action is crazy. The Mega Satellite is going on right now which I decided to pass on. I don't love the structure as far as starting chips and blinds. I am really looking forward to the main event, it's my favorite part of poker. Hopefully I will play well and have good luck, or at least not bad luck. It's a funny thing people in the poker worlds seem to talk about being lucky or running well. I think that luck plays a large part in the short run, but keep in mind it also plays a part in the long run. Some players run well, or not so well for years. It is amazing how a new face will turn up at the Commerce or Bellagio no limit big game and kill it for a while. Usually, after a few months they experience neutral or bad luck and they can't understand what's going on. All those flushes on the river and gutterballs they used to hit have gone the way of the dodo. Luck does even out over a large number of players and time, but for one player, over even several years, it is easily possible to run well, or not.

I made a 4 way last longer bet last night with Kido Pham, Eric Cajelias, and Danny Alaei for the main event which I felt good about. There is a large field expected, somewhere over 700 players and with 20,000 in starting chips and a good blind structure I am ready. I played my first main WPT event at the commerce 2 years ago after I satellited in, finished 22nd and was hooked. If I didn't play in that event 2 years ago, I might not have jumped into the poker arena as I did, so I always feel warm and fuzzy about this place.
