LAPC Final Table, Obama for Presidentby Roy Winston | Published: Feb 28, '08 |
This afternoon is the final table for the LAPC which includes the two Phil's', Ivey and Hellmuth. Ivey has a sizeable chip lead, but anything can happen and it should be a great final table. Nam Le is the short stack at the table and although mathematically is the long shot to win, I wouldn't be surprised to see him comeback and be a major factor. I will be there watching, it should be good theatre.
I will be playing this weekend in the celebrity invitational, also at the Commerce, for the first time. Everyone says it is a great event and the cast of characters playing should be interesting.
Last time I criticized Hilary Clinton I received a flood of email some agreeing and some violently disagreeing. One reader went so far as to say I should keep my opinions to myself, which I thought was ironic, because it's my blog and therefore my opinions and it was his choice to read it or not. One of the best things about this country is freedom of speech. What I think people sometimes forget is that freedom of speech means you have to support one's right to express their opinion even if it's the opposite of what you believe. So here goes; let me start out by saying I am supporting Obama. I think he is a good man with a strong record of accomplishments. By comparison to his democratic rival Hilary, he outshines her in every dimension. Honesty, integrity, and a willingness to take a stand on issues, and he has taken the high road during the campaign. Hilary has accomplished very little of her own. It all comes from being "married" to President Bill Clinton, and I use the word married very loosely. Even her sham of a marriage was used as a political vehicle. Certainly it has not been a marriage as we were raised to believe or even one of convenience. Instead it has been a deception of the worst kind. Conceived, and in fact executed as a deception to create the impression of the American family for political gain. Hilary Clinton is just another carpet bagger politician. It brings a smile to my face seeing her fall behind in the primaries.
Looking at the John McCain who is the probable republican candidate is someone I admire, but I don't agree with some of his view points. He is far too conservative for me on issues like the war in Iraq, a woman's right to choose, environmental issues, economic policy, and let's not forget online poker. I also wonder if he is too old for the office and not in touch with what's going on in the present. However I think John McCain is a great man. His has dedicated his life to this country. His selfless contribution is way above any candidate of recent times, let alone his current competition. His is truly a great American, and although I don't agree with many of his opinions, I still respect him immensely. Too bad the democrats can't come up with a candidate as strong as McCain with a more liberal stance. In fact it's really a shame that most of the candidates we have to choose from are marginal at best. Perhaps it's the system itself that creates the type of person that is forced to navigate it, or is it the type of person that is drawn to it. In any event, we need better choices. Anyway, I think Obama is the best all around choice and has my vote. I am hopeful he can make a positive difference as President.
