Hiking, Kayaking, Golf and Red Rockby Roy Winston | Published: Mar 07, '08 |
I took the last few days off to relax and spend some time with some old friends. I have been staying at Red Rock in Las Vegas and played golf at the country club there, going to the spa and generally enjoying myself. Yesterday our group went on a hike in Arizona, not far from the Hoover Dam, and then kayaked down the Colorado River. It was a great day with perfect weather, although as I sit here writing this I'm pretty sore. One of the kayaks in our group tipped over and dumped my friend Bob into the freezing water. The river guide said that's the first time she had seen one of them tip. There were no rapids just a gentle current. The trip was set up by the Spa at Red Rock and really was great. Today we played golf at Reflection Bay. Perfect weather, good friends, a beautiful course, and my game still sucked. We are going out to dinner tonight, then it's off to Bay 101 tomorrow. I will be playing in Todd Brunson's charity event tomorrow at 3pm, the 2k event on Sunday and of course the main event.
I spoke with Matt Savage the tournament director who assured me that if he gets any cancellations or no shows I will be one of the shooting star bounties in the tournament. At this point I don't really care but wouldn't mind the discounted entry fee and I like it when other players play stupid against you trying to collect the bounty. I can' believe it, but while writing this Matt just called and I'm in. I haven't really played since The Commerce, although I did spend a little time in the Red Rock poker room. It's one of the nicest and best run rooms in Vegas, and I've had a good run in their no limit game.
