Took the Weekend Off, Ready To Go

I took the whole weekend off, although I have to admit I logged plenty of hours on Full Tilt. Kind of funny really, several players on FT kept asking me why I wasn't play at the WSOP, I replied I was taking some time off, and they laughed, go figure? Anyway, I went out to dinner Saturday night with some non poker players at the Wynn, and went to see Iron Man yesterday. I have to say I really enjoyed the movie, made me feel like a kid again. Maybe that's what I like about poker as well, I get to spend my day playing a game I enjoy and earn a living (most of the time).

Today I'm going to play the $1,500 shootout. I like the shootout format. I played the 5k shootout on Friday and made it to 4 handed before going bust. I did have a crazy tough table with Jason Somerville, Dario Minieri, Russell Floyd, Sorel Mizzi, Dave Plaskett, Will Durkee, Isaac Haxton, Daniel Stern, and Reza Tabatabol. I do have to say that several of the players really just wanted to gamble, even with the blinds relatively small compared to stack sizes. I was surprised by this. One player in particular, who also blogs on this site, seemed to be a one trick pony, with "all in" his only trick. On the other side of the coin, Will Durkee's play was extremely impressive, although he did flop top set twice and get huge action. I didn't even know what flopping a pair felt like let alone top set. I do feel like I am playing well and today is another day.
