Heads Upby Roy Winston | Published: Aug 22, '08 |
I am happy to be back in Los Angeles for the legend's WPT event at the Bike. It is always a good time when there are events at either the Bike or the Commerce because the action at both places picks up. I played the last couple of days at The Commerce; the game was only fair, and not a great line up. An interesting situation developed over the past couple of days. A well known young internet player who is a heads up specialist arrived at The Commerce and wanted a high stakes heads up no limit freeze out. Ari, who is a regular cash player at The Commerce and has been a friend of mine for years took the bait and decided to play, the challenger offered him 20% of his losses back on the first day and changed the arrangement to $800 per hour on the second day. Now I have been playing against Ari for several years and he is a truly gifted player. I watched him play 2 heads up freeze outs against Johnny Chan at the Bike last year which he swept. On the second day with the stakes doubled to $100-200 blinds Ari was able to win over about a five hour period.
I was happy to see Ari win, not only because he's a good friend, but to see a player come into "our house" and offer 20% back and then $800 an hour to play anyone was pretty cocky. Now Ari did say he was a solid player and who knows Ari might have just gotten lucky but I was pretty sure he would prevail.
I am headed down to San Diego to spend a little time in my newest Laser Center this morning. We just opened in San Diego a couple of months ago and it's going well so far. www.laseraway.net is the link if you want to check it out.
I want to thank everyone who has replied to my looking for an editor topic. I am replying to emails now.
