Enjoying Vegasby Roy Winston | Published: Oct 20, '08 |
I have been at the Bellagio the past few days playing a combination of cash and tournaments. The 5k had around 160 players and I managed to stay alive until about 40 left, with 18 getting paid. I flopped a set and Tom McCormick flopped a flush draw and a gutter ball. We were three handed after the flop and it's checked to me on the button and I bet 90% of the pot because of the draw heavy board. Also I like to build a pot when I flop big. Tom raises me about 2/3 of his remaining chips, the other player mucks and I raise enough to put him all in, and he calls. Turn comes a blank and the river gives him a flush. I went from just above average in chips to life support. I get a momentary reprieve when I double through Ike Haxton, but eventually succumbed to the blinds and no hands. I played the Mega yesterday which attracted 161 players and made it to 24th, nine shy of the money. I haven't decided if I will play unless I win a seat, I think it will be a small top heavy field. It will be interesting to see how many players they attract. There is also a good series over at Caesars, and the buzz is that Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps has been playing there and made a final table.
I will be on the Fox morning show tomorrow (Tuesday) doing a WSOP final table update. It is rapidly approaching and I am really looking forward to it.
