The Borgata Rocks With a Great Turn Outby Roy Winston | Published: Jan 13, '09 |
Well I'm back at the Borgata and event one a $400 buy in no limit holdem deep stack event with 2 start days began today with more than 650 players, and Tab, the tournament director says they expect to sell out the 900 possible spots for tomorrow. I played one satellite and wound up with MJ Bernstein on my left. I have played several satellites with him lately and he has an impressive game. I busted out 3rd but MJ was heads up and got it all in ahead and lost. I wouldn't be surprised to see him do well this series or this year in general. I am going to play the event's second start day tomorrow. I look forward to seeing if they can break 800 for the $3,000 main event with a two million guarantee.
I decided to play a little no limit cash before calling it a night and there was a short handed 10/20 no limit going so I sat down and preceded to loose every hand I played for almost three hours, except winning the blinds occasionally. We are 3 handed and I'm play against two fairly solid players when I pick up my best hand of the night JJ in the big blind. The button had made it 120 and I smooth called after the small blind folded. The flop comes 2 7 7 and I check knowing he will continue, which he does for 160, and I smooth call again. The turn brings a 10 and I check. He doesn't disappoint and bets 240. I have a twinge of concern that he has a 7, but I'm pretty sure I'm ahead. Then as if made to order a J comes on the river giving me top full. I bet 700 the same way I bet it on the river against him an hour earlier when he called my bluff. He tanks for a minute and raises 1,000. He accidently puts in 1,800 although he says "raise 1,000." I have been quite chatty and say "wow, your laying odds against me, now that's insulting." I have 2,840 left and move all in. He goes crazy, gets up, walks around and says "I have such a good read on you and I know I have you, I call." He shows 89 for a straight.
