Main Event is Underway

Today was day 1a of the Borgata deep stack event. Deep stack it was, starting with 50,000 in chips and with the same structure usually reserved for $10,000 buy in events the blinds went up every 75 minutes, and went up slowly. The day began with 439 runners and if the trend continues tomorrow should be the busy day. All week the estimates seem to circle the 850 mark, but I wouldn't be surprised if one thousand turns out to be closer to the actual number. This in turn could make the first prize in excess of $500,000.

Today ended with just under 300 players which corresponds to an average stack of around 75,000. The event is scheduled to go 5 days which is highly unusual for this size buy in. I was talking with Bill Edler today who seemed to be a fan of the format and size of the event. I will give you my impressions after tomorrow, but I can't see it being much different than other main events at Borgata, which of course I'm a fan of.

I spent today playing on Full Tilt and let's just say it was a bad day. My long time friend Adam Schoenfeld knocked me out of the big event with his 88 against my AA, and it went downhill from there. The good news is I didn't use up my luck for tomorrow, at least I hope not. My good friend Jay Berger is here at Borgata and satellited in yesterday to the main event. This will be his largest buy in event to date and I want to wish him well.
