I received quite a few emails about my last blog concerning the hand with Jay. The overall question was did I soft play him. Very often at the end of a hand a player facing a large call will say, "I know I have you but go ahead and take it." Obviously if you "know" you have someone you are calling. So the more important question, especially in a tournament where chips cant be re-bought, is this the best spot to get a lot of chips in?

So here's the thing, I was pretty sure I was ahead, but if he was so intent on outplaying me, and perhaps trading on our friendship, then go ahead, The old saying fool me once… There is no room for soft play in a tournament, I strongly believe that. Maybe a little piece of me thought if he had pocket aces, queens, or deuces, I'd never hear the end of it so a bad lay down is always better than a bad call. So in my mind it wasn't soft play, perhaps just bad play.
