Mohegan Sun is a Great Place to Playby Roy Winston | Published: Apr 28, '09 |
I played last night at the Mohegan Sun's new poker room and was impressed. They have 42 tables in a great well designed room with comfortable chairs. From the check in area to the availability of room service food at the tables, there is a high level of customer service. The session fees were reasonable $6 per half hour for $5-10 NLH or PLO. The process of buying and cashing out, as well as tournament registration was well thought out as well. It all comes from Bruce Dixon, who is the director of poker, who has a great staff and is committed to making poker a good experience for the player. The only question I have is why would you play anywhere else in the area?
I played a satellite for the $1,500 main event, which did not go to well. Actually it started out ok when I flopped a set with 77 and got a full double up. Then in the 4th level, with the blinds at 100-200 and a 25 ante, UTG + 1 raised to 700 and there were two callers, in the big blind I had QQ and re-raised to 3,000 which was half my stack. The original raiser called and the others folded. The flop came 664 and I shoved. He called and showed KJ. I thought wow, insta-call pre-flop with KJ? Of course a club fell on the river and I went to play cash games.
The cash games were really good, and in the $2,500 5-10 NLH I got almost a full double up with AA. The PLO was even better. The play was for the most part somewhat less than stellar. What made it so good was a lot of bluffing and calling with marginal hands.
