Mohegan Sun Day 1by Roy Winston | Published: Apr 29, '09 |
I just finished playing day one at Mohegan Sun's deep stack. It attracted just under 400 runners at $1,500 per player, which equates to a first prize of just over $140,000. The good news is that I'm still in the running. I had a very active with Tony "Bagels" on my left and a couple of tight players to his left so one of us seemed to be raising every hand. There was a solid young player to my left who was also pretty active, opening almost every unopened pot that came to him. He and Tony Bagels played an interesting pot, with the blinds 200-400 and a 50 ante, where the kid raised 3 BB from the button, I folded A7 off suit and Tony re-raised. After the kid called the flop comes K 5 2. Tony opens for ¾ of the pot and the kid raises ¾ of the pot back leaving himself about the same amount behind. Tony then re-raises enough to put the kid all in. After a few minutes he folds and Tony shows 94.
I had an interesting hand that began with 7 minutes to play in the evening. I had just lost a medium big pot to a player who arrived at our table about a level earlier, Bill from Albany. There were several limpers and it comes around to the player on my right and he makes it 6,000 with the blinds 1,000-2,000. I call out of the small blind and Tony calls, as does one of the limpers. The guy who just won the pot from me on the last hand Bill, raises to 15,000 and everyone calls, so we are 5 ways to the flop and I have 97. The flop comes perfect for me, 997. I check as does Tony and it comes around to Bill, who makes it 35,000. I take a minute and smooth call and unfortunately everyone else folds. The turn brings an ace and it goes check, check. The river is a 4 and I go all in for my last 38,000. Bill thinks for a while and Tony Bagels calls a clock, finally Bill calls. He tells me later that he had QQ. I finish the night with 201,000, with the average being 125,000.
